I forgot to cat

Decided to dog.

Friendly reminder that this behavior is generally very abnormal for a healthy cat. The ONLY time a cat should pant open-mouthed like that is right after some prolonged, high activity. This cat is alert, his tongue is pink, his pupils are dialated. He/she has just been playing very hard and needs a cool-down.

If a cat that has not been playing hard is panting like that, or if their tongue/gums are pale, GET THEE TO THE VET ASAP. Do not call ahead. Do not wait until Monday. Get that kitty to the vet immediately. If your vet is closed, find the closest emergency vet. Cats panting open-mouthed are often in imminent heart/lung failure and this is a last resort to get some oxygen to their struggling organs.

Tumblr is so quick to make posts about animals acting strangely and turn them into some sort of joke or just completely overlook what might actually be going on.

I totally get that some people don’t have animals or any reason for something like this ^^^^ to raise any alarms but please I just ask that you think about it a little more.

Some cats are bloody weird tbh, as are a lot of animals, but i just ask that people think about these sorts of posts more. Same with the whole swimming owl (drowning owl) and the cat that looks like it’s in a dressage competition (overreaching = can often mean a neurological issue). Oh AND the rabbit in the sink having a bath (literally makes me cringe every time I see it. Your bun is probably 20 minutes from having some sort of panic induced heart attack).

It’s just so important and is really largely ignored on tumblr imo simply because it looks cute or funny.
